Before installing a new elevating device, the licensed elevating contractor must submit an application to have the design specifications registered.
BCSA's design registration review can take up to four weeks from the date you submit an application. Once the design is registered, you’ll receive a confirmation letter from BCSA which becomes your installation permit.
After installation of the new elevating device, you then must arrange an inspection before you put the elevating device into service.
Once an installation has passed an inspection, BCSA will send an invoice to the owner for the operating permit. An operating permit must be obtained within 60 days of the elevating device passing the inspection. The operating permit can be obtained by the property owner, general contractor, developer or property manager (Learn more: Elevating Devices Information Bulletin IB-ED 2013-01).
