New Boiler, Pressure Vessel And Refrigeration Codes Adopted

Topic: Announcement of new boiler, pressure vessel and refrigeration codes adopted

Effective June 9, under Ministerial Order M 165 deposited as B.C. Reg. 113/2015 (attached to this information bulletin), the Schedule to the Power Engineers, Boiler, Pressure Vessel and Refrigeration Safety Regulation has been amended as set out in the table below. The amendments include adoptions of updated editions of codes. Other editorial changes were also made that are not included in the table.

2 American National Standards Institute and National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspectors (ANSI/NB)

The following codes, standards or parts of a code or standard of the American National Standards Institute and National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspectors (ANSI/NB) are adopted: (a) ANSI/NB-23 National Board Inspection Code 2013 Edition;

(b) ANSI K61.1- 1999/CGA G-2.1- 1999 Safety Requirements for the Storage and Handling of Anhydrous Ammonia Fifth Edition.

The ANSI/NB-23 National Board Inspection Code 2013 Edition of the American National Standards Institute and the National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspectors (ANSI/NB) is adopted. NOTE: No actual change to adopted NB code editorial.

NOTE: See new section 8 below for CGA G-2.1 changes.

3 (b)  American Petroleum Institute (API)  API 510 Revision/Edition 9 Pressure Vessel Inspection Code: In- Service Inspection, Rating, Repair and Alteration;  API 510 Pressure Vessel Inspection Code: In-Service Inspection, Rating, Repair and Alteration, Tenth Edition;
5 (a) Canadian Standards Association (CSA) CSA B51-09 Boiler, Pressure Vessel, and Pressure Piping Code;  CSA B51-14 Boiler, pressure vessel, and pressure piping code;
 5 (b) Canadian Standards Association (CSA) CSA B52-05 (R2009) Mechanical Refrigeration Code; CSA B52-13 Mechanical refrigeration code;
5 (c) Canadian Standards Association (CSA) CSA N285.0- 08/N285.6 Series-08 General Requirements for Pressure-Retaining Systems and Components in CANDU Nuclear Power Plants / Material Standards for Reactor Components for CANDU Nuclear Power Plants. CSA N285.0- 08/N285.6 Series-12 General requirements for pressure-retaining systems and components in CANDU nuclear power plants / Material Standards for reactor components for CANDU nuclear power plants, including Update No. 1. 
6 National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) The following codes, standards or parts of a code or standard of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) are adopted: (a) NFPA 85 Boiler and Combustion Systems Hazards Code 2011 Edition. The NFPA 85 Boiler and Combustion Systems Hazards Code 2015 Edition of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) is adopted.
8 American National Standards Institute and the Compressed Gas Association (ANSI/CGA) No previous section: Contents of new section 8 were previously adopted under Schedule 2 (b) – see above. The ANSI/CGA G-2.1- 2014 Requirements for the Storage and Handling of Anhydrous Ammonia Sixth Edition of the American National Standards Institute and the Compressed Gas Association (ANSI/CGA) is adopted.
